Savannah Way Part 2...1night Borroloola, 1night...Somewhere?

The next part of our Savannah Way Adventure was between Lorella Springs and Lawn Hill National Park.  Our lunch stop on the first day was at the "Heart Break Hotel" at Cape Crawford.
The road conditions were much the same as we had experienced for the last few days travelling on the Savannah Way. More big dips, bull dust, and  lots of cattle to negotiate, either on the road or in the creek crossings.
An SOS spray painted on the road sign "Broken down 5ks please send help!"
They look cute as calves but..............then they grow up!  You wouldn't want to hit one of these.
We made it to the small fishing town (on the McArthur River ) of Borroloola by late afternoon and set up camp for the night.  Borroloola is close to the Coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria, and is well known for its fantastic fishing.  Unfortunately this time, we could only stay the one night, but were lucky enough to be given an 85cm Barramundi caught by the campground owner that day. Talk about hospitality.  He strolled over to our camp and asked if anyone wanted a Barra!  Better still he even went to the trouble of filleting it for us too! The two fillets fed our families (4adults & 5 hungry kids) for 2 nights.
look at the size of that fillet.
We hit the road the next morning headed for Lawn Hill but knowing we'd most probably have to stop somewhere else on the way.
Pulled over for lunch                                              Scott and Ben threw a line in (no luck)
Back on the road                                                          A pretty creek crossing
50kms after crossing into Queensland we came to the Hells Gate Roadhouse. We arrived there close to 4pm, perfect time to stop for the night, but decided to push on after not getting a good vibe when we pulled up, along with hearing previous creepy stories from other travellers.
A random optus phone attached to a tree in the middle of nowhere
Its a weird feeling not knowing where you are going to sleep the night!  On inspection of our "Camps 5" book we realised there was nothing listed so we quite literally started pulling off the Savannah Way down little tracks looking for a suitable spot to camp.  After a few failed attempts I was beginning to think maybe we should have bit the bullet and stayed at Hells Gate! After a while Tex spotted another track that came out at a beautiful waterhole full ducks and birds, with a clearing and plenty of room to set up camp.  We may have been on someones property, its hard to tell out here but anyway we called it home for the night.

The kids went exploring, we hung out our washing, and as the sun went down watched the gums turn pink, reflecting in the water.
The kids collected firewood,  we had a Barramundi BBQ, and even some after dinner entertainment by the kids who had prepared some funny skits.
The next morning we were up nice and early for an easy drive to Lawn Hill.
